A little mountain village on the Swiss border in Piedmont's far north, Formazza was founded by the Walser people and retains a Walser German-speaking community today. It sits at the edge of the Alps with cafés, restaurants, and several historic churches that exceed what its size would suggest, and the surrounding high-mountain terrain draws visitors year-round. The northernmost municipality in Piedmont, it borders both the Swiss cantons of Valais and Ticino.
