The Ognon river runs through this modest village in eastern France's Haute-Saône, making it a base for water-based activity in the rolling pre-Jura hills. The Château de Villersexel anchors the town centre, and the village carries the Cité de Caractère label awarded by the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region. Its history is marked by the Battle of Villersexel, and the wider region holds several UNESCO World Heritage sites.
