Morteau, a small town in the Doubs department of eastern France's Jura massif, is known nationally for its smoked sausage, the saucisse de Morteau, and has a second identity as a centre of the watchmaking industry that took root in the region in the late 18th century. Set in a valley within the Doubs Horloger regional nature park, it sits on the River Doubs with scenic surrounds and a pocket-sized central core of cafés and restaurants.
