Thames Town
Shanghai Municipality · China
Thames Town is a Shanghai satellite development built to resemble a British market town, with cobbled streets, Victorian terraces, corner shops, and red telephone boxes. Completed in 2006 in Songjiang District, it drew early attention as a curiosity of themed architecture but high house prices left it largely empty for years, earning it a reputation as a ghost town. It sits on the water, roughly a half-hour from central Shanghai.
