Monterchi

Arezzo · Italy

Monterchi, a small village in Tuscany's Tiber Valley east of Arezzo, is known above all for the Madonna del Parto — a fresco painted by Piero della Francesca between 1455 and 1465 in honour of his mother, who was from the town. Originally created for the chapel of Santa Maria di Momentana, the work is now housed in the dedicated Museo della Madonna del Parto. The village sits in the Valtiberina, with scenic surrounds and a handful of cafés and restaurants.
