Hamme

Belgium

Riverside town in Belgium's East Flanders province, Hamme sits where the Durme meets the Lower Scheldt, across a flat polder landscape. Its centre holds a concentration of historic churches, and the Mirabrug — a swing bridge renovated in 2003 — takes its name from the 1971 film *Mira*, itself adapted from Stijn Streuvels's 1927 novel. The wider region is ringed by UNESCO World Heritage sites.
