This 13th-century Lower Silesian town at the foot of the Owl Mountains in southwestern Poland, Dzierżoniów has a walkable Old Town centred on a market square lined with historic tenements and a town hall, with cafés and restaurants nearby. The town sits on the Piława river and takes its name from Jan Dzierżon, a noted Silesian beekeeper and scientist. Several UNESCO World Heritage sites lie within the wider region, and the mountains close by offer scenic surrounds.
