Beersel
Belgium
Beersel Castle, built between 1300 and 1310 under Jean II, Duke of Brabant, anchors this Flemish town just south-west of Brussels. The municipality is also known for two traditional geuze breweries — Oud Beersel and 3 Fonteinen — and for local specialities including mandjeskaas, a white cheese stored in pocket-sized baskets, typically paired with geuze. Guillaume Dufay, the 15th-century Franco-Flemish composer, is thought to have been born here.
