Zile
Tokat · Türkiye
Julius Caesar's famous declaration "Veni, vidi, vici" — "I came, I saw, I conquered" — is said to have followed his victory at the Battle of Zela, fought near this north-central Turkish town in Tokat Province. Known in antiquity as Zela, Zile is one of Anatolia's oldest settlements and today serves as an agricultural and tourism centre, with a historic core that includes a number of churches from its long past as a bishopric.
