Zanesville, in Muskingum County, Ohio, sits at the confluence of the Licking and Muskingum rivers and served briefly as the state capital of Ohio from 1810 to 1812. The town centre holds a concentration of historic churches, and the riverfront location gives the city a distinctive character among Ohio's smaller urban centres. Columbus lies roughly an hour's drive to the west.
