Croatia's oldest continuously inhabited city, Zadar sits on the Adriatic coast in northern Dalmatia with a walkable old town dense with historic churches, cafés, and restaurants. Its fortified city centre was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2017 as part of the Venetian Works of Defence. Vineyards surround the city, mountains lie close by, and the waterfront position makes the sea a constant presence throughout the centre.
