Viviers

Ardèche · France

This modest town on the Rhône in southern France's Ardèche, Viviers was once the capital of the historic Vivarais province — a name it gave to the entire region — and remains the seat of its own bishopric. Its medieval cathedral and views over the river are the main draws, set within deep wine country and surrounded by scenic terrain. Cafés and restaurants occupy the compact centre.
