The largest town in Peru's Sacred Valley of the Incas, Urubamba sits along the Urubamba River in the high Andes beneath the snow-capped peaks of Chicón and Pumahuanca, with a café and restaurant scene that outpunches its size. An hour from Cusco, it serves as a base for visiting nearby Inca ruins — including the sparse remains of the palace of Quispiguanca within the town itself — and lies within reach of Machu Picchu and other sites across a region dense with UNESCO World Heritage recognition.
