Trenčín Castle rises from a rock above this western Slovak city on the Váh River, one of the oldest towns in the country and named a European Capital of Culture for 2026. The walkable centre has a dense food-and-drink scene, several historic churches, and scenic viewpoints over the river valley, with mountains close by.
