Topoloveni, a modest town in Romania's Argeș County, is best known for its Magiun — a traditional plum-based spread that has carried EU Protected Geographical Status since 2011. The town sits on the Cârcinov River, whose name it temporarily bore between the wars, and is surrounded by vineyards. First documented on 19 June 1421 during the reign of Radu II Chelul, its name derives from the Slavic word for poplar.
