This small island capital in the Aegean sits right on the water, with an unusual density of cafés, restaurants, and churches for a village its size. Designated a protected historic site since 1967, the town is built in the Cycladic style — traditional houses set close together — and holds both an archaeological museum and the Faltaits folklore museum. Mountains rise nearby, and the wider island is the largest of the Sporades.
