A medieval hill town in western Sicily's Trapani province, Salemi clusters around a castle whose battlemented tower offers wide views across the landscape to the sea. Vineyards and olive groves surround the town, whose well-preserved historic core — with an unusually high concentration of churches for its size — earned it a place in the I Borghi più belli d'Italia register. The town gained broader attention in 2023 as the setting for the BBC series in which Amanda Holden and Alan Carr renovated a €1 house in the historic centre.
