Patong
Thailand
Phuket's busiest beach resort sits on the island's west coast, with a long stretch of sand backed by a dense concentration of hotels, restaurants, and shops. Bangla Road is the centre of the area's well-known nightlife scene. The beach drew Western tourists from the late 1980s onward and now operates as the main hub for tourism on the island. A tsunami warning system has been in place since the area was struck by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.
