A waterfront town on Phuket's southern coast, Chalong is home to Wat Chalong — formally Wat Chaiyathararam and considered the most important of Phuket's Buddhist temples — dedicated to two 19th-century monks who helped suppress a rebellion in 1876 and treated the wounded with herbal medicine. The temple grounds host a large market, and the surrounding area offers a food-and-drink scene alongside views toward nearby hills.
