France Ariège

Pamiers

Ariège · France

Sitting on the right bank of the Ariège river at the foot of the first Pyrenean foothills, Pamiers is the largest town in the Ariège department, with a compact old town of brick buildings — in the Toulouse style — ringed by canals and holding a cathedral that serves as the seat of the Bishop of Pamiers. Cafés and restaurants concentrate in the centre, vineyards lie in the surrounding area, and the mountains are close.
