Merrickville, in Eastern Ontario, sits on both shores of the Rideau River where a set of three canal locks — part of the UNESCO-listed Rideau Canal — forms the centrepiece of the village. A Parks Canada-restored blockhouse beside the locks operates as a museum. The area has built a growing tourism economy around its concentration of local artists and craftspeople.
