This pocket-sized Tyrolean village on the Sill river, south of Innsbruck, with a striking number of churches for its size and scenic mountain surrounds. Matrei am Brenner has long served as a trading stop along this Alpine corridor, and the village centre offers a modest but real café and restaurant scene alongside listed heritage architecture. The wider region sits near a UNESCO World Heritage area.
