This little Austrian town in Tyrol with an unusual concentration of churches for its size, Absam is a pilgrimage stop on the Camino de Santiago (Jakobsweg) whose pilgrimage church was elevated to a Basilica minor in 2000. Close to mountains and with a good café and restaurant scene relative to its size, it sits within reach of UNESCO World Heritage sites in the wider Tyrolean region.
