Sitting at the northern end of its own lake, which connects to the Mediterranean through the Dalyan Delta, Köyceğiz is a tiny Turkish town in Muğla Province with a compact, walkable centre and a café and restaurant scene close to the water. The surrounding area is protected as a special environmental zone, sheltering loggerhead turtles and blue crabs, while nearby cliff-face rock tombs overlook the ancient city of Caunos. Köyceğiz holds Cittaslow ("slow city") membership, accepted in 2019.
