Japan Kiryu City

Kiryū

Kiryu City · Japan

Kiryū, in Gunma Prefecture, is a textile city long defined by Kiryū-ori, a traditional silk-weaving craft that has left the city with a dense concentration of industrial heritage — including six Japan Heritage designations and well over a hundred nationally registered tangible cultural properties. The old weaving halls and merchant streetscapes give the centre a strong visual character, and the city sits close to mountain terrain with UNESCO World Heritage sites in the wider region.
