This town in western Saitama Prefecture, Japan, sits at a major road junction where two expressways meet and has preserved several traditional folk performing arts, including the Ashiori rain-prayer ritual — designated a national intangible folk cultural property — and the Takakura lion dance. The area was historically part of the ancient Koma district of Musashi Province and has not undergone any municipal mergers since the Meiji-era consolidations.
