A high-mountain hamlet in the Pierian Mountains of northern Greece, Katafygio holds several historic churches for a settlement of its size and sits close to mountain terrain and water. It is also the birthplace of John Zizioulas, Metropolitan of Pergamon. UNESCO World Heritage sites lie within the wider region.
