Karpenisi is the highest-elevation regional capital in Greece, a small town in the southern Pindus Mountains set along the Karpenisiotis river with Mount Tymfristos rising directly to the north. It has a ski resort and draws winter visitors in particular, with a café and restaurant scene that punches above its size. The surrounding mountain terrain makes it a base for outdoor activity across seasons.
