A walkable city in western Greece with a dense food-and-drink scene and many historic churches in its centre, Agrinio is the largest city in the Aetolia-Acarnania region, close to both mountains and water. Once a major centre of the tobacco industry — home to the Papastratos company among others — it is also known for its locally produced Agrinion olives, with ancient remains of the original settlement surviving a short distance from the modern city.
