Vienna's historic first district, the Innere Stadt, is the old city core enclosed by the Ringstraße — the grand boulevard that follows the line of the former city walls — and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The area is dense with listed historic buildings, churches, and a concentrated food-and-drink scene, all within a walkable centre. Until Vienna's boundaries expanded in 1850, this district was the city entire.
