The largest town in Austria's Weinviertel region, Stockerau carries a walkable centre with cafés, restaurants, and a heritage-dense streetscape, alongside the Stockerauer Au — a riverside woodland between the town and the Danube, under nature protection since 1994. The town is also known as "Lenaustadt" after the Austrian poet Nikolaus Lenau, who spent time here with his grandparents in his youth.
