Holloko
Nógrád · Hungary
Hollókő is Hungary's only village on the UNESCO World Heritage List, inscribed in 1987 for its exceptional preservation of Palóc rural life and traditional wooden architecture dating to the 17th and 18th centuries. The old village burned entirely in 1909 but was reconstructed precisely as it stood, and it remains a living settlement rather than an open-air museum. Several houses function as small museums, a 13th-century castle has been partly restored, and the village hosts a weaving festival each July and a wine procession each October.
