Gisors, a compact Norman town in the Eure department within easy reach of Paris, is dominated by a medieval castle that has stood on its mound since the Middle Ages — a physical record of the long struggle between Capetian and Plantagenet rulers over this border territory. The fortress has also attracted legends connected to the Knights Templar. The town sits at the edge of the Vexin français and has a café and restaurant scene that holds a surprising number of options for its size.
