Frauenfeld

Switzerland

Frauenfeld, the cantonal capital of Thurgau in Switzerland, sits where a plateau drops sharply to the Thur valley and the rocky banks of the Murg river, giving the town a varied waterside and elevated terrain. Its walkable centre supports a dense food-and-drink scene, and the surrounding region is wine-growing country with vineyards close at hand. The old town core dates to around 1230, laid out on a compact rectangular plan on ground dedicated, by name, to the Virgin Mary.
