Forza d'Agrò

Messina · Italy

Built on a spur below the ruins of a Norman castle, Forza d'Agrò holds a Byzantine-era monastery and the Cathedral of Santissima Annunziata at its core. Greek colonists are said to have named the headland the "Silver Promontory"; the village later took its name from the fortress, Fortilicium d'Agrò. Like neighbouring Savoca, it stood in for Corleone in The Godfather and its sequel, with terraces looking out toward Taormina and the sea.
