Elverum
Norway
This little Norwegian town on both sides of the river Glomma in the Østerdalen valley, Elverum has a compact central area — known as Leiret — with cafés, restaurants, and easy access to the surrounding mountain country. The centre grew up around the 1680s Christiansfjeld Fortress, and the town today holds the Glomdal Museum on the river's west bank, along with a university, hospital, and two converging railway lines.
