Sitting on the Arve river in the Alps of Haute-Savoie, Cluses is a town with a walkable centre, a café scene, and steep mountain slopes rising on either side. It built its identity around watchmaking in the early 20th century and is still regarded as the French capital of precision machining. The town sits on the main route toward Mont-Blanc and Italy, making it a practical base for exploring the wider Alpine region.
