A southern Polish town on the Uszwica river, Brzesko is home to the Okocim Brewery, founded by Jan Goetz in 1845, along with the Goetz family's 19th-century neo-Baroque palace and park. The 14th-century church of St. Jacob and several historic cemeteries — including World War I military graves and a Jewish cemetery with around three hundred headstones — round out the town's heritage. A compact centre with cafés and restaurants sits within reach of the wider Lesser Poland region, which is ringed by UNESCO World Heritage sites.
