This large city on South Korea's Yellow Sea coast, southwest of Seoul and connected to it by subway, Ansan is known for one of the country's most diverse multicultural communities — the Wongokbon-dong district has been designated a multicultural area, with Russian- and Chinese-speaking communities among the largest, alongside ethnic restaurants and shops. Daebu Island, the largest of several islands within the city's jurisdiction, extends its coastal reach, and an annual street theatre festival draws visitors each year.
