One of Germany's oldest towns, Andernach sits on the left bank of the Rhine just north of Koblenz, where the valley narrows into the Middle Rhine stretch — a UNESCO World Heritage corridor. Founded by the Romans and celebrating its 2,000th anniversary in 1988, the town has a walkable centre with cafés, restaurants, and historic churches, backed by the wooded Krahnenberg hill and its scenic viewpoints over the river.
