Alange

Spa waters have drawn visitors to this modest Extremadura village since at least Roman times, when a bathhouse with separate facilities for men and women was built here. A medieval castle of Roman origins rises above the Matachel river, held by the Order of Santiago from the 1240s until its abandonment in 1550. The village sits on the water with scenic surrounds and a handful of cafés and restaurants for its size.
