Aghmat, a village south of Marrakesh on the Ourika road, holds the tomb of al-Mu'tamid ibn Abbad, the Andalusian poet-king who spent his final years here in exile alongside his wife I'timad. Once a significant medieval Berber trading centre, the site is now an archaeological area known as Joumâa Aghmat, close to the Atlas Mountains and within reach of several UNESCO World Heritage sites in the wider region.
