Zaozhuang
Shandong Province · China
The 1938 Battle of Taierzhuang, one of the major engagements of the Second Sino-Japanese War, took place in this large city in southern Shandong Province, and the reconstructed Taierzhuang Ancient City and a dedicated war memorial hall now draw visitors to the site. Zaozhuang is also known for its Railway Guerrilla Memorial Park, commemorating wartime resistance fighters, and for Weishan Lake's wetland scenery to the west. The city traces human settlement back to the Neolithic era and holds memorials to the ancient philosophers Mozi and Luban.
