Waterways

Kingston (Vic.) · Australia

This pocket-sized Melbourne suburb where roughly 40% of the land is water and 20% parkland, Waterways was built around artificially created wetlands along Mordialloc Creek, a tidal distributary of lower Dandenong Creek. Over 46 hectares of wildlife sanctuary support more than 100 documented bird species, and the suburb sits between two conservation areas — Braeside Park and Edithvale Wetlands. Domestic cats are banned to protect native wildlife, and planning rules strictly limit what residents can plant in their gardens.
