This mountain town in Romania's Maramureș region, Vișeu de Sus sits at the confluence of the Vișeu and Vaser rivers and is best known for the Mocănița, a narrow-gauge steam train that runs through the Vaser Valley. Designated a tourist resort of national interest, it lies within an intramontane basin and is surrounded by a wider region rich in UNESCO World Heritage sites.
