One of only two civilian settlements on the entire continent of Antarctica, Villa Las Estrellas is a little Chilean outpost on King George Island, the largest of the South Shetland Islands off the Antarctic Peninsula. Set on President Eduardo Frei Montalva Base, it serves as a transit and supply hub for the island's research stations, with an airport and generally ice-free waters making it a gateway for people and goods moving deeper into the continent.
