Victoria de Durango
Durango · Mexico
Founded in 1563 by the Spanish explorer Francisco de Ibarra, Victoria de Durango is the highland capital of Mexico's Durango state, set in the Valley of Guadiana with a walkable historic centre that holds the largest concentration of catalogued historic buildings in northern Mexico. That centre forms part of the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro, declared a UNESCO World Heritage route in 2010. The city takes its official name from Guadalupe Victoria, the first president of Mexico, who was a native of the state.
