Velilla del Río Carrión

Sitting on both banks of the Carrión river in the mountains of northern Palencia, Velilla del Río Carrión is a tiny village with a surprisingly lively café and restaurant scene for its size. The surrounding Montaña Palentina natural park offers serious mountain terrain, including the emblematic peak of Espigüete. The village is also a starting point for the Ruta de los Pantanos, a route through the Palentine mountains following two reservoirs built in 1930 and 1960.
