Uryupinsk, a town in Volgograd Oblast on the Khopyor River, is known in Russian press and literature as the "Capital of the Russian Provinces" and has a folk craft tradition of knitting shawls, socks, and other goods from goat down. The westernmost town in Volgograd Oblast, it sits at the end of a branch railway line and serves as the administrative centre of Uryupinsky District.
