The capital of the Umm al-Quwain emirate sits on the Khor al-Badie peninsula, with mangroves lining the coast and a local economy built largely on fishing and tourism. In 2023, archaeologists announced the discovery of the oldest known pearl-fishing town in the Arabian Gulf on nearby Siniyah Island, adding a significant heritage dimension to this small emirate capital between Sharjah and Ras al-Khaimah.
